HURRICANE RELIEF

We know many of our members and their families have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many people have reached out to ask about ways to support the Houston LGBT community.  Disaster relief funds have been established specifically to support the Houston LGBT community in the recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey (links below).

Houston is a strong and resilient community and that can be said of the Houston LGBT community as well.  We will recover but it will take time and many resources.  Your support will make a difference.  We know the generosity of our community, in Southeast Texas, across the state, and throughout the country.  Thank you from Houston.

LGBTQ Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Fund

The LGBTQ Disaster Relief Fund will be used to help individuals and families begin to rebuild their lives through counseling, case management, direct assistance with shelf stable food, furniture, housing and more. The Center’s dedicated case management team will be on call to help homeless youth, seniors, people living with HIV, hate crime survivors, and those devastated by the storm.

The Transgender Foundation of America created this disaster relief fund because trans, intersex, and genderqueer individuals have historically experienced significant difficulties in natural disaster situations. Worse, recent attacks by lawmakers have resulted in heightened hostility against local trans people. This fund will be used to help our historically underserved community recover from this catastrophic event. If needed, the fund will also assist with burial costs for community members who’ve lost their lives in this historic disaster.
