CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF IMPACT

2026 marks a milestone year for the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce — our 10-Year Anniversary.

For a decade, the Chamber has been a driving force and become the leading voice for LGBTQ+ economic inclusion across the Greater Houston region. What began as a bold vision in 2016 has grown into a powerful movement for visibility, opportunity, and economic empowerment.

Since 2016, the Chamber, through a growing LGBTQ+ economic ecosystem, has connected business and community to advance economic empowerment, expand opportunity, and strengthen visibility for the LGBTQ+ community across Greater Houston.

The LGBTQ+ Economic Ecosystem

The Chamber has built—and continues to grow—one of the most dynamic LGBTQ+ economic ecosystems in the country.

Through intentional partnerships, programs, advocacy, and deep community connection, we have created a vibrant network where LGBTQ+ and Allied businesses, professionals, corporate partners, nonprofits, civic leaders, and community organizations thrive together.

Today, this ecosystem continues to grow as we work to close economic gaps, expand opportunity, strengthen business and workforce pathways, and drive economic success for the LGBTQ+ community across the region.

This year, we honor our shared progress, celebrate the members, partners and leaders who made it possible, and set the stage for our next chapter.

A Decade of Impact.
Stronger. Bolder. Unstoppable. Together.

Building an Economy Where Everyone Belongs.

OUR JOURNEY

From our founding members and inaugural partners to the 560+ members who stand with us today, the Chamber’s success is built on unity, resilience, and relentless purpose.

Together, we have:

  • Elevated LGBTQ+ businesses and entrepreneurs
  • Built partnerships across corporate, civic, and community sectors
  • Advocated for economic inclusion across Houston and beyond
  • Increased visibility for LGBTQ+ leadership and enterprise
  • Strengthened the ecosystem that powers our community

For ten years, we have grown stronger, bolder, unstoppable — TOGETHER.

A DECADE FORGED IN RESILIENCE

10 Years of Impact. Stronger. Bolder. Unstoppable. Together.

When the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce launched on February 24, 2016, we began with a bold vision: to ensure our community had a seat and a voice at the tables where economic decisions are made — and to build an economy where everyone belongs.

What we did not know then was just how much resilience that vision would require.

Over the past decade, our Chamber has grown not during easy seasons — but during some of the most disruptive and defining moments in modern history.

We launched during a national political shift that reshaped the landscape for LGBTQ+ protections and corporate engagement. Just one year later, Hurricane Harvey devastated Greater Houston, flooding hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses — including many within our own membership.

We persevered. We strengthened.

In 2020, as we prepared to celebrate our 5-Year Anniversary milestone, the world shut down. The COVID-19 pandemic halted in-person business overnight. Small businesses — particularly LGBTQ+- and allied-owned businesses — faced unprecedented closures and uncertainty. Sponsorship budgets disappeared. Events were canceled. The future felt unclear.

We adapted. We innovated. We leaned into supporting our community.

Then came Winter Storm Uri — a power grid failure that left millions without electricity or water. Businesses froze. Pipes burst. Recovery began again.

And the challenges did not stop.

Houston endured a historic derecho and Hurricane Beryl in the same season — back-to-back climate disasters that once again disrupted our region’s economy and infrastructure. Inflation surged. Insurance costs climbed. Workforce models transformed. Legislative attacks targeting LGBTQ+ communities escalated. Corporate diversity initiatives faced increasing scrutiny and pressure.
Through it all — political headwinds, natural disasters, economic volatility, public health crisis, infrastructure failures — the Chamber did not retreat.

We expanded.

We strengthened partnerships.

We increased our visibility.

We deepened our advocacy.

We grew from an idea fueled by conviction into a powerful economic voice representing hundreds of businesses and thousands of employees across Greater Houston.

Our first decade was not built in calm waters. It was forged in storms — literal and figurative. And every challenge clarified our purpose.

Because when disaster strikes, when policies shift, when our community feels uncertain — economic belonging matters even more.

Today, we sit at tables where decisions are made. We influence conversations that shape policy, business culture, and regional growth. We elevate LGBTQ+ and allied entrepreneurs and professionals, connect corporate leaders to community impact, and ensure that our voices are not absent from the rooms that define Houston’s future.

That is the power of a decade.

And as we celebrate this milestone year, we do so not as an organization that simply survived ten years — but as one that became stronger because of them.

Because our members need us. Our community needs us. And the work of building an economy where everyone belongs is far from finished.

Ten years of showing up.
Ten years of advocating.
Ten years of building.
Ten years of impact.
And we are just getting started.

Stronger. Bolder. Unstoppable. Together.

THE STORMS WE HAVE NAVIGATED

HEAR FROM OUR FOUNDERS

Gary Wood

"The Chamber was born from a simple but powerful belief: that the LGBTQ+ community deserved to be seen, valued, and represented at the tables where economic decisions are made. That our businesses, professionals, and entrepreneurs deserved visibility, opportunity, and inclusion within the broader economic ecosystem of Greater Houston."

"Ten years ago, Tammi and I came together to form this Chamber that was built on a simple but powerful belief: that authenticity and opportunity should go hand in hand."

As we celebrate a Decade of Impact, we honor the vision that started it all—and the leadership that continues to guide us forward.

The Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce was co-founded by Tammi Wallace and Gary Wood, who shared a bold belief that our community deserved greater visibility, opportunity, and economic empowerment. What began as a vision has grown into a thriving ecosystem of businesses, leaders, and changemakers across Greater Houston.
